George Observatory

Just 30 Minutes south on 288 from Houston

The Biggest Astronomy Event in Southeast Texas!

There is plenty to see and do at the George Observatory in the daytime, but the observatory really comes to life at night! Observe the Moon and deep sky objects, enjoy professional research telescope viewing through 18", 14" and 36" telescopes. There will also be numerous telescopes of all types and sizes on the observing deck. You will be able to see craters on the Moon, and deep sky objects such as planetary nebulae, star clusters, and galaxies.

We are working with the HMNS along with FBAC (who run the East Dome) on how best to have the public engaged in astronomy but address safety concerns of both volunteers and the public. This is the FIRST Houston Astronomy Day we have been able to run in nearly SIX years (2016). Unlike previous year, attendance and some activties will be limited.

Please join us for a day filled with astronomical fun! Astronomy Day will be held on Saturday, October 29th, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. at the George Observatory, located within Brazos Bend State Park. See the map in the left sidebar for more help with directions to the observatory.
